Malaysian Motorsport Scene

The Underground Drag Scene

It was the night before Sepang Drag Battle which will be held today 19.11.2011. We were just chilling around having a drink when a close friend tipped us that there was an "Unofficial Drag Battle" was about to start at the old drag strip in Cyberjaya. A lot of the cars competing in the Sepang Drag Battle is present.

Immediately we called the waitress and paid our bills and head off to the venue. To our astonishment, the place was already filled with cars. Drag cars but most of all spectator's car. As if it was a legit motorsport event. There were even tow trucks and flatbeds around (Usually famous/high end workshop will tow their car because it is not road legal).

There were the usual suspects such as the Vtecs, Satria Turbos the Evos and the Lancer. But what really caught my eye was the Purplish/Pink Satria built by Nuar X. With its reputation as the KING of Class A and KING in MUSC Drag Challenge, i was trembling when i saw the car. This is the car that holds the track record and also the top speed record. Damn!

Then there was a Turbocharged EK9. Seeing it in the warm up session trying to "flex its muscle" alone was already scary. Damn! These cars are fast. Not just fast. they are insanely fast.

I only stayed and watched 2 session between 2 EFs and the Nuar X Satria vc the Putra. In the Battle of the EFs...one of them had a missed gear. But in the should i say Battle of the Kings...the Satria of Nuar X prevailed. I didnt manage too snap a lot of picture due to battery drain. But i did capture the video of the battles.Saturday Nite Fever Round 7 (12th November 2011)

Last night's Round 7 was a great excitement. Due to the current monsson season, many was expecting rain to pour down in Sepang that night. But, the weather was suprisingly good with only a tease of drizzle before the start of Heat2.

Fierce racing was the name og the game last night with every racer gave their absolute best to win and make a name for themselves. This resulted in some off the track excursions and some nudging and "kissing" action amongst the racers. Nothing too serious as most of this racers and seasoned campaigners and have been participating in the earlier rounds.

The atmosphere was good. The crowd was not to bad considering the predicted rain from the weather forecast. But all in all it was great fun. Watched some great battles from the end of the pitlane. Cars jostling into position finding the best racing line into Turn 1. At times, it was 3 abreast going into the same corner. Lord! Motor Racing at its very best.

For those of you who havent yet experienced the Saturday Nite Fever Challenge series, i suggest that you come and experience it yourself. The next round is scheduled on the 10th of December 2011. Be it, motorsport fan or not, this event is surely not to be missed. An excellent array of artist and performers is set to REV UP Round 8 of the Saturday Nite Fever Challenge series.
